The challenge was multi-dimensional. We were tasked with creating a brand that would resonate on two very different fronts, capturing the interest of potential investors while also appealing to experience-driven travelers seeking meaningful, restorative escapes. The identity had to communicate a sense of luxury, but without the usual extravagance, it needed to feel refined yet grounded.
At the same time, environmental consciousness was a core part of Sama’s philosophy, but the branding couldn’t rely on overused sustainability tropes. The Sama team envisioned something more profound, a retreat that felt intentional, soulful, and rare. Our role was to translate that vision into a brand that spoke with clarity, elegance, and purpose.
Our branding journey with Sama began with a series of immersive workshops designed to uncover the essence of the brand. The first workshop focused on brand discovery, where we worked closely with the stakeholders to define Sama’s core principles. Through open dialogue and strategic exercises, we explored how themes like stillness, sustainability, and understated luxury could be distilled into a distinct and meaningful identity. This session helped us set the philosophical and emotional tone that would guide the rest of the project.
The second workshop was centered around market and audience understanding. Here, we dove into defining Sama’s key audiences — investors and experience-driven travelers. We developed detailed personas, identified their expectations and values, and began shaping messaging that would speak directly to them. This step was critical in aligning the brand’s communication with its strategic goals, ensuring the brand would resonate with both emotional and commercial clarity.
With the brand strategy in place, we developed a complete visual and verbal identity system that truly embodies Sama’s sophisticated, serene, and intentional spirit. Our work included creating a brand book, investor pitch deck, moodboards, logo system, color palette, and messaging guidelines. These tools provide a cohesive foundation to communicate Sama’s values consistently across all platforms and materials.
A key element of the design is the bamboo-inspired motif, which symbolizes the brand’s commitment to sustainability and mindful hospitality. Alongside this, the elegant wordmark and carefully chosen typography convey calm luxury and clarity, reflecting the refined yet approachable nature of Sama. Together, these elements bring the brand’s vision to life with clarity and purpose.
Perhaps our most significant design decision was the creation of the bamboo-inspired motif.
Our brand motif is inspired by eco printing methods that are practiced in parts of Nepal and India. It is a sustainable
technique that involves transferring the natural colors and shapes of leaves, flowers, and other plant materials onto fabric
or paper. This process creates beautiful, unique designs while being environmentally friendly.
This wasn’t merely a decorative element – it became a powerful symbol of Sama’s commitment to sustainability.
